Winner! Best Wine Documentary

Client: Brown Brothers

Project: Next in Wine: Survival and Succession (documentary film)

Festival Recognition: Best Wine Documentary – Women, Wine & Film Festival 2023

Challenge
Brown Brothers wanted to explore a new way of marketing their wines. Instead of traditional campaigns, they sought to create a deeper emotional connection with consumers.

Solution
Partnering with Dundas Media, Brown Brothers embraced a brand-funded storytelling approach. Dundas Media developed the concept of following the creation of their Tarrango wine across an entire year, capturing the dedication and resilience of the 4th-generation Brown family—predominantly women—who carried the legacy forward. The strategy was simple: if audiences saw the passion and effort that went into the wine, they’d be more compelled to buy it and seek out the Brown Brothers brand.

Execution

  • Filmed over 12 months, documenting the journey from grape to bottle.

  • Distributed through Foxtel and the Lifestyle Channel to reach wine lovers and mainstream audiences alike.

  • Timed the film’s premiere with the national retail launch of Tarrango at Dan Murphy stores, creating a powerful story-to-shelf moment.

Results

  • Next in Wine: Survival and Succession won Best Wine Documentary at the Women, Wine & Film Festival 2023.

  • Tarrango sold out nationwide within one week of release.

  • Established Brown Brothers as an innovative brand willing to embrace bold, modern marketing.

Impact
This brand-funded film proved the power of storytelling as a marketing tool—transforming audience engagement into measurable sales, and setting a benchmark for how wineries can connect brand, story, and consumer demand.
